Zahn returns with his first full solo EP since 2014's New Day Rising! He delivers a collection of four new direct, hypnotic cuts from his recent live sets that have already received play from Ben Klock, DVS1, Truncate, Par Grindvik, and others...
The Ascension sessions occurred when Zahn was holed up at a hotel in Ibiza last year during one particularly rainy week. 'I was doing a lot of live sets at the time so I wanted to use my down time to write more music that was simple enough to truly play live.'
For Zahn, it was hard to deny the tribal-influenced soundtrack that often dominates the vibe of the white island. In result, he set out to reimagine Techno's `tribal' formula from the late 90s and early 00s with a more contemporary mindset. 'I also wanted it to see what it would be like if I replaced all the unnecessary congo bongo loops with a rhythmic section that relied solely on detuned synthesizers acting as the rhythm section. The result was a handful of `drum tracks' created by synths.'
Despite being written beachside, all four tracks still retain the hypnotic and quasi- dark grooves that Dustin has become known for. The tribal element is also nod to Zahn's earlier productions before his time with Drumcode. Dustin's new release is the first of a busy release schedule for 2016, 'I'm really surprised at how far Enemy has come and I think it finally has a great crew of core artists. This means it hasn't left much room for my own productions, so I'm returning some of the focus to myself for most of the year.'
