Going Up

Divided Soul, Alex Robinson & James Northage

Sidetrak Records
STEP020 | 2016-05-16
Sidetrak return with their second instalment of 2016 featuring three new up and coming producers from the North of England.

Divided Soul and Alex Robinson & James Northage make their debut on the label with a 4 track EP bringing with them a healthy dose of tech tinged flavours, dubby contorted bass lines and sharp beats.

Lead track 'Going Up' from Divided Soul is a tech house stomper with hints of progressive arpeggios and rave stabs. Another Tech House number ‘Now Then’ uses brass synth licks to underlay the dubby groove.

Collaborative track 'Blow' from Alex Robinson & James Northage, uses spoken samples and echoes of clicks on top of the slidey bassline and shuffly drumbeat.

'Sleep Paralysis' from Alex Robinson uses a dubby sub bass, messed up vox samples and delayed FX to provide a soundscape for the more serious of clubbers!

A music lover from an early age and a trip to Ibiza a decade ago sparked Divided Soul's love for house music. Listening to such greats as Sven Vath and Carl Cox on the dancefloors of Amnesia and Space and more recently the likes of Jamie Jones and Solomun at DC10 and Pacha has moulded his style of house and techno.

Divided's first release 'Nuthin Wrong' came out on Love Not Money Record’s New Love Volume 7 release in November 2015, which was supported by the likes of Claude Von Stroke, Carl Cox, Denney, Cristoph, Sonny Fodera, Dale Howard and Josh Butler and 2016 looks to be an exciting year with more releases on the horizon.

Alex Robinson is a 25 year old DJ / Producer from Hull, Yorkshire, UK who has been DJ’ing for 9 years being brought up hearing his older brother and sisters’ magical clubbing stories from the 90’s. After being headhunted by Terry Spamer he landed his first residency at one of the UK’s longest running house night's ‘Déjà vu’ at the legendary Welly Club in Hull.

Playing alongside close friend James Northage everything seemed to click musically and they got booked most weekends to play back to back together, The duo quickly became a respected part of the Hull Circuit. Living in the vast shadows of local legends wAFF and Carl Matthews was a real inspiration and a constant reminder for them as to what was possible.

James Northage, a DJ / Producer also from Hull, Yorkshire, UK has been DJ’ing for 9 years. His father Paul Northage who went under the stage name of ‘Paul Sinclair’ toured the world, including having a lengthy residency in Miami DJ’ing through the ‘Disco’ Era which greatly inspired James to push his music career.

James got his first gig at ‘That Bar’ in Hull in the early 2000’s playing House music. From here he quickly began to shine amongst the Hull scene. Being a ‘Déjà vu’ resident for over 5 years he has curated his knowledge and built an immense record collection and understanding of night club dynamics.

Both Alex and James have played warm-up and closing sets for the likes of Mark Jenkyns, Jozef K, Sam Russo, wAFF, Dale Howard, Lee Foss, Matt Tolfrey, ANEK, James Zabiela, Sonny Fodera, Dennis Ferrer, Laura Jones, Richy Ahmed, Darius Syrossian, Davide Squillace, Sidney Charles, Saytek Live, Flashmob, Clive Henry, AudioJack, Route 94, Yousef, Adam Shelton, Skream and many more with one of the highlights been the summer of 2014 warming up the Teknicolor / Distrikt at the Déjà vu arena at MiNT festival.
