Los Angeles producer Derek Dunbar drops his debut release, a 6-track EP for DJ Heather’s Blackcherry imprint. A versatile musician and seasoned DJ, you can hear the producer’s diverse influences on DRIPPIN WET. The smooth release ranges from the distinct underground house grooves of ‘Drippin Wet’ & ‘Feels Right’, to the soulful hip-hop-inspired downtempo of ‘Love of Mine’ & ‘In Too Deep’. Derek grew up in Detroit with a rich musical background -- his father wrote songs for artists like Freda Payne, Chairman of the Board and Parliament Funkadelic. From an early age, Derek would watch his father compose on the piano and eventually took lessons. As a teenager he composed his own songs on the piano and guitar creating a unique flavor of music noticeably influenced by his father’s funk, jazz and blues styles while also gathering more experimental alternative influences of his own. In 1997 a 21-year old Dunbar played his first dj gig at Motor Lounge, the premier electronic music venue in Detroit. It was also around this time that he first saw two of his house idols Mark Farina and DJ Heather play, providing some early inspiration for his pursuit of a career in music. Flash forward a decade, and Derek’s hard work, desire and passion have paid off: a regular on the LA circuit, his productions have received support from the likes of Roy Davis Jr, Diz, Giom, Wally Callerio, JT Donaldson, Thomas White, Leon Louder & Easily Influenced among others, firmly establishing Derek in the LA house community.
