In a world in which our very existence is about the most improbable thing we can possibly imagine, it’s safe to say that nothing is more miraculous than anything else. Still, there are a handful of moments that might win the prize if we were scoring the universe on an awesomeness scale. Case in point: when trekking through Antarctica, a freak snow storm caused total whiteout. The Bearded Man’s beard froze instantly into a prison of icy bars. He lost consciousness, facing certain death. When his eyes opened, he was inside a large tent and saw a figure hovering over him. Dazed and hungry, he asked the name of his savior: Nicolas Haelg.
