Circles 2009 (The Remixes) (Incl. Boddhi Satva,Tony Loreto & Jacko TJ Inc Mixes)

Mustafa, Natalia

TR Records
TR013 | 2009-10-07
Originally released on the Yellorange imprint, YO1004 Circles Mustafa feat. Natalia was pure afro-electro House a decade before its time!

Receiving a face lift from the masterful DJ/producer, Boddhi Satva of Offering Recordings, this brand new remix is making the electronic dance world remember how timeless this tune was then and with Boddhi’s unique brand of afro tech funk fervor is a testament to its legacy today! Included here are 5 slamming remixes here to heat up any DJ’s dance floor that programs Afro-Tech house.

Calling out to the ancestors is Boddhi’s Ancestral Soul Mix. The driving electro percussions dives head first into the power of Natalia’s raw, un-inhibited vocal prowess. Reminiscent of a young Billie Holiday on top of a modern electro groove, she wails that haunting line, needing something more, decadent but pure, I will call you master, get to this much faster still sends chills up the spine as the grit of Boddhi’s soulful tech sounds digs into the soul. The keyboard stabs on the climax leaves the African plains briefly and touches on a more classic Chicago via NY House however never wavering from its original intent. Deep, dark, decadent but divine. Boddhi’s Ancestral Dub included.

What a dance floor workout from Tony Loreto & Jacko aka TJ Inc on the Vocal Mix! A pronounced twangy bassline, and plucked, jerky key sounds on top of meaty percussions and kick is an instantaneous floor grabber. That funky bass electro twang rides in sync with the lyric melody. Sweet organs and another set of warm keys come in and drape the chorus. Chugga-chugga percussions and sing-song keys dominate the break. Overall, this is steady, pounding and hypnotic mix. The TJ Inc Dubland and the TJ Inc Dubstrumental mix are raw tech house at its best?rough, ballsy & aggressive!

REVIEWS:

Mike Fossati (Spirit of House): Mustafa Shabbar's classic Circles was originally released back in 1998 on YellOrange Records, and its safe to say this timeless production featuring an outstanding vocal by Natalia was light-years ahead of its time - who could predict afro-tech would become so hip one day? Back to present day, we have a slammin' remix package in front of us, with Boddhi Satva delivering a deep soul-tech interpretation as only he can do, combining Natalia's haunting vocals with celestial key stabs and a deep contaminous groove (a tougher dub is included too). Next are Tony Loreto and Jacko as TJ Inc, serving a deeply pounding vocal version featuring atmospheric synths and jerky keys. Their vocal and instrumental dub versions are raw and chunky, featuring killer chords over heavily stompin beats (think of Sandee's Notice me and you know what we talk about here).

Antony Angell: Originally out on the brilliant Yellorange imprint, this time it has been rework and dragged up to date. Boddhi Satva gives up the Ancestral Soul mix which is totally awesome, beautiful keys sitting on top of an Afro style beats. Also by Boddhi is a dub, this is very striped down with an almost clap style beat. Tony Loreto & Jacko give us 3 mixes as well, first is a Vocal which keeps Natalia’s vocal but adds a slightly electro twang to the mix. You can this working in all sets from Soulful to Electro/Tech style, such crossover appeal. Church Organs at the ready, the Dubland and Dubstrumental mix rip it up extremely well in a raw house style, very Dennis F style.
