Taron Trekka EP

Taron Trekka

Fina Records
FINA016 | 2014-08-11
FINA Records returns with its sixteenth release this June, this time coming from German duo Taron Trekka who offer up a four-track self-titled EP.

Daniel Müller-Sachs and Andreas Kriester aka Tarron Trekka have been releasing material via the likes of Freude Am Tamzen, Brut! and Milnor Modern since the late 2000s, although have been actively DJing since the late 90s. Since unveiling the Taron Trekka alias in 2006 the pair have picked up support from some well respected heads in the underground circuit such as Rødhåd, Don't Be Afraid founder Semtek and Adultnapper, so it's no surprise to see the pair snapped up for a single here on the illustrious FINA Imprint.

Kicking off the release is 'Allelle Fu', a gritty, dropped-tempo number fusing a crossbreed of emotions, the duo employ growling subs and rugged rhythms to give the cut a dark edge in the initial stages, while the latter opens up to funk-laden bass licks, filtered disco synths and guitar chops, taking things instantly into
a bright and enlivened state. 'Olsen Mosaik' follows, which sees the pair delve into dub territories with swirling echoed pads and stabs, while stripped percussion, boomy low-end and whispering vocal lines keep things deep and hypnotic.

Entering the B-Side of the single we have 'Savant', a dusty feeling composition pumped full of atmospheric noise, the drums take on a prominent presence this time to drive the groove, while blues style vocals and evolving Rhodes progressions instil some musicality into the record. We then see the package rounded off with 'Straff Afo', a great closing cut with its authentic deep house feel, riding out cosseting piano lines, stuttering vocal snippets and brilliantly swung drums to give the construction an infectious shuffle.
