We go deep on this Beats Me Music release! Join us in welcoming new artist Invisible Friend (aka James Pilling) to the BMM family. Here is an extended ep of five original tracks from the talented producer, enjoy!
From growing up around R&B, Soul and Mod, through discovering the treasures of Jazz, Funk, Disco, Afro, Northern Soul and Dub Reggae, to full immersion in the Underground House scene James has been relentlessly enthused by, and has collected driving, emotive & unifying music.
During the 90's James started DJing with Inside Out; a collective of passionate, Deep House heads following in the footsteps of DIY Sound System and the likes. Be it in a warehouse, function room, club, field or disused railway tunnel, the all night parties chugged on blissfully for many years and gained a substantial and dedicated fan base.
James learned piano, guitar and percussion from a young age and was involved in several Trip Hop, Acid Jazz and Funk bands. He later turned his hand to producing. The journey started in a smoky basement studio, famed for creating seriously heavy Jamaican sounds, James was soon learning his way around the mixing desk, along with various synths, samplers, drum machines and vintage analogue kit. Gradually his love of atmospherics, emotion and rhythm fused, became texturized with sublime dub techniques and has been painstakingly finished with a precise deep house music sensibility.
James continues to party, collect music, mix and produce since his journey started, building his references, developing his skills and honing his sound; a fusion of Deep House, Tribal, Dub, Jazz - Funk, Ambient and Soul.
Invisible Friend original compositions are equally at home on the dance floor, on the beach or in a lounge.
