New York Steak of Mind / Bada Boom

Kit Tacchini

Paper Recordings

The man of mystery is back with two heavyweight slabs of dancefloor mayhem that boast his trademark production which is crisper than a Walkers Factory on National Potato Day.

Bada Boom kicks things off with a grizzled sub and rock solid main room drums that hold down fizzing effects and ricocheting snares. A reggae sample sneaks in and out as the backbone of the track rumbles on. But after the dark comes the light with the sample given full reign and the skank is complete, coming off like a lost Ashley Beedle joint from back in the day.

The re-rub keeps the sample to a minimum but maxes out the heaviness and sounds like it’s natural home would have been at Twilo in it’s heyday being played by Danny Tenaglia.

Now we all like a pun so it’s a pleasure to have such a fine one on the label. New York Steak of Mind lives up to its damn fine name and is a deep as your feet slice of tech-house with an analogue sensibility. With an eye on the future and the past it’s got bass and pads that belong to Detroit, samples that belong to NYC and drums that belong to Chicago but all held together with 2014 production.
