Bedfunk is excited to welcome a brand new artist to our label, it's her debut house release and we couldn't be more thrilled to introduce the incredibly talented Maycie Lee.
Maycie come to our attention via her parents. Maycie attended a party Pat was DJ'ing at with her family and a studio date was set.
In the way all the best things are organic the studio session flowed and as Maycie relaxed into it they crafted a beautiful song that is very relatable, that time is so precious that we should take every opportunity that's given to us. How may times have you wanted to do something and because of fear or procrastination it didn't happen? But the opportunity then disappears and you wish you had acted on it. Well we are really glad Maycie took the opportunity to jump into the studio with us.
Maycie is a singer and songwriter guided by soul. Raised on R&B, neo-soul, Motown, her sound has always been shaped by emotion, storytelling and groove. Artists like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, D'Angelo and Michael Jackson laid the foundations, while contemporary influences such as Cleo Sol, Sasha Keable, Mahalia and Sinéad Harnett continue to inspire her evolving voice.
This release grew from a curiosity about how beautifully house and soul can meet, which is hardwired into the Bedfunk DNA especially through gospel-influenced vocals with uplifting energy, music that feels just as good to dance to as it does to feel.
Her songwriting reflects a very real journey through love, heartbreak, healing. Following her debut track 'Alisha', a bossa nova inspired release, this collaboration with Pat Bedeau and Bedfunk feels like a celebration of growth, freedom and the soul that lives within her.
What these two have created is beautiful and relatable. It's honest and anthemic and gets you hooked the first Time around.
