Chestnut Ave EP

Edmondson

Hypercolour
HYPEDIGI037 | 2014-01-06
Just in time for Crimbo, Hypercolour drops a four tracker from Newcastle born Edmondson. With a release previously on Electro Magnetic Fields, this young novice certainly shows huge potential on this EP.

Title track ‘Chestnut Ave’ eases in gently, lazy pianos and stabs sit over the wooden thump of the drum track, a sweet little early hours cut here. ‘Tendency’ builds with its atmospherics, the broken beat and vox cranking in, evoking shades of MJ Cole but certainly on its own path, all the while building up a lush collage of rising synths and floating keys.

Attention to atmospheric detail is certainly one of Edmondson’s strong points, and on ‘U Belong’, the jerky rhythms and cut ups are soaked in reverb, without compromise to the solid shuffling beats. Final track ‘Don’t Stop’ is a right gurt lush doseage of laid back funk, one of those tracks that could quite easily go on forever and ever and you’d never tire of it’s slick groove.
