Kicking off with the boisterous low tom-driven swing of ‘Only 909’ - a love letter to everyone’s favourite drum machine, ‘The Hook Up’ celebrates the no-nonsense side of Hardgroove in spades. The stomping percussion and nifty sampling of ‘What Is Her Name?’ and ‘Hook Up’ are fuelled by underlying Funk, while the raucous, big-room heft of closing track, ‘Superman’, takes no prisoners.
