DJ Doc composes yet another beautifully written song that feature the talents of Paras with his haunting vocals and Bheki Mthembu with gliding piano scales on a track that resonates from deep in the heart of Zulu land.

Abaphansi means simply "those who are down below", for the dead are believed to live "down below" - beneath the earth. It is synonymous with amathongo, as it refers to all the dead who belong to the family.

The ancestors are said to be primarily concerned with the welfare of their descendants. When good things of life are realised, people say abaphansi banathi. When misfortunes happen, they say abaphansi basifulathele, for the ancestors are believed to withdraw their protection and gifts of good fortune from erring descendants. Without their protection, the descendants become vulnerable to all sorts of misfortune and disease.

This is a gem of note whose magic will never fade.

Enjoy!
