"Walk on By" was written by the legendary songwriting duo of Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick. Dionne's 1964 version stands up as probably the best version to date, despite having some big hitters recording covers (Isaac Hayes, The Stranglers, Gloria Gaynor). We have a soft spot for the Gabrielle version in the GU office, but, really, Dionne nailed it. When it comes to samples, however, the Isaac Hayes version smashes Dionne out the park with over 100 artists sampling his version, although you could argue that Doja Cat's 2023 lift of Dionne ("Paint The Town Red") and its 1B+ streams trumps all of that. The point of all this? Well, nothing more than to show the song is an evergreen staple for artists and producers for the last 50 years. Adding to this now we have Italian producers Skyline and Simon Adams who put a deep house spin on the classic melody. Disco beats and a loopy bassline form the groove, add in some delicious chords and that iconic topline, and you have the kind of super-playable deep house that will entertain from poolside to the club. Tasty.
