HUGS opens its arms to Nick van Tiel, a seasoned selector whose fingerprints are all over Sydney's dancefloors.
Hailing from New Zealand with stints in London and now calling Sydney home, Van Tiel's musical style is eclectic, blending genres such as UK garage, drum & bass, house, disco and dancehall - seeing him frequent venues and events the likes of Boiler Room (Chinese Laundry), Above, Lost Sundays & Lost Paradise. Being championed on airwaves like Triple J, Toolroom Radio and Strictly Rhythm, Van Tiel is also a member of two collaborative projects: Dibby Dibby Soundsystem and The Housing Corp.
On 'Not Mine', he swaps the booth monitor for the studio monitor, linking up with sultry vocalist SIILA to deliver a groover built for poolside revelry and soaking up the sunshine. This one simmers. A slinky bassline coils around crisp percussion, while SIILA's vocals walk the tightrope between longing and letting go. It's deep, it's cheeky, it's unmistakably HUGS!
