Soul Damn Funky presents: New York Classics Vol 2
Compiled by: Marcia Carr & Russell Ruckman

Long running music brand and collective "Soul Damn Funky" are releasing
their 3rd compilation album. This one is on Victor Simonelli's Bassline Records. SDF (Soul Damn
Funky) will be 15 years in the game in March 2025. They started out as just a small
in-house night at a pre-club bar in central Brighton, the event was so popular that
SDF evolved into a regular club event at various venues hosting headliners
like: Paul Trouble Anderson, CJ Macintosh and of course Victor Simonelli.
The last album they released came out on Todd Terry's inHouse Records
and was a massive success, and the next album, New York Classics Vol 2 will be
their 2nd release on Bassline Records.
The Album is compiled by Marcia Carr and Russell Ruckman. Marcia and Russell
are very knowledgeable, passionate DJ's who were brought together for
their love of the man hailed as London's Larry Levan, The late great Paul
"Trouble" Anderson. When compiling the album they choose stand out tracks
from their own collections, plus those classics that deserve a second wind.
Marcia is into her 4th decade of spinning, she started out as a dancer on the Jazz
Funk scene, and come the early 90's by pure fluke, she found herself DJing for
regular Uni events which then led to a very active global DJ career.
Marcia is well known as a quality eclectic selector, she confidently drops some
obscurities to an unsuspecting audience and makes it work just as much as when
she is playing for the musical connoisseurs. Marcia plays an assortment of Black
music from funk, jazz and boogie to gospel house, broken beat and everything in
between.
Russell Ruckman "Brighton's House Music Solder" who started DJing at
just 10 years old, he has been playing uplifting US Garage / House since its
inception in the early 90's. Russell knew no other teens of his age at the time
listening to such niche soulful vocal house. Having none to very little pirate radio in
Brighton it was hard to get a grasp of what was going on in the world of house
music, but lucky for him he was able to receive Kiss 100 through a radio relay
provided by Nynex Cable TV company, this changed Russell world and direction
forever.
Russell, the creator of Soul Damn Funky is probably one of the only DJ's in Brighton
playing rare Trouble cuts and other obscure hard to find deep and soulful US house
gems. Russell started out playing in the backstreet basement gay clubs in
Brighton. People loved his sound and he progressed on to play at many of the
other Brighton venues. Russell ended up with a pretty decent DJ career,
playing alongside many of his hero's and being booked all over the UK, he
was getting booked by some of the biggest soulful house promoters of the
time.
Russell started Soul Damn Funky in 2010 which became Brighton's only event/
radio show specialising in the U.S Garage sound. Russell has worked with some
of the biggest names in house from Todd Terry to Grant Nelson, CJ Macintosh,
Paul Trouble Anderson and many more.
Russell presents two radio shows a week on Brighton's only FM dance station
"Upfront Dance 87.9FM"
On the new album you can expect to hear music from the likes of: Connie Harvey,
Jazz & Groove, Ann Nesby, Stacy Kidd, Solution, Strive For Jive, Booker T and so
many more house greats.

Full credits for each individual track coming soon.
