Turkish producer and DJ Zeynep Erbay's Forest Spells EP is a leftfield house music journey into a wild yet magical forest, where nature itself takes center stage. Zeynep is inspired by birds like owls and toucans, creatures she holds dear—whose beautiful energies carry genuine spells! She tells us this release explores how we, as humans, can become aware of and perceive these natural messages. It intertwines the themes of receiving messages from nature, being conscious, and awakening. "Forest Spells" is about showing respect for and feeling harmony with the natural world, allowing it to awaken and inspire us. The title and opening track gently welcomes you into this world. "Toco Toucan" pulses with a tropical beat, lush arpeggios and bird calls that reflect the habitat of the beautiful bird, and it evolves into a Latin house jam led by Zeynep's piano work. The "White Owl" is one of the largest species of owl (so dope, these things are almost alien) and a nomadic bird; the track reflects its power carried by hypnotic rhythms and mysterious and suspenseful chords, while Zeynep gives a voice to the owl, asking you to look into its piercing yellow eyes. WHOOOT "Drops on Woods" has Zeynep return to the piano with a bit of Gospel inspired chord work, leading a truly ascendant closing track that is meant to evoke the rain drops falling within the forest.
