Softpaw is the work of Mexican DJ & musician Jesus Fernandez. He makes his music from his home in Orizaba, a city on the route between Mexico City and the port of Veracruz. Pico De Orizaba, the stunning snow-capped volcano, dominates Orizaba's skyline, and Lynx roam nearby in the national park. Yet, in contrast to all this beauty, the city is an industrial and agricultural hub. Fernandez says that this Castor/Pollux nature has left a deep mark on the emotions that flow through his music (it's rare we have deep house artists referencing Greek mythology in their bios!). His debut, the melancholic, Kevin McKay-produced "Gasoline", was a solid hit in the Deep House charts. This time, Kevin joins Softpaw and fellow Mexican artist Bante for another deep house journey. Bluesy guitars and a low, pumping bassline drive the groove while a hooky-as-hell off-kilter vocal tops the lot. Superb.
