ICONYC007 | 2024-10-25
As it scours the rave-laced streets of Berlin, ICONYC emerges unscathed from its unrivaled underground with John Falke's Octi EP. With previous releases on imprints like Innervisions & TAU, the German producer is hotter than Hansel right now, and this new two-tracker is bound to break the Scoville scale.

Devising an imposing piece of machinery from the first beat, John Falke's throbbing low end takes hold of "Octi", as it uncovers a plethora of tantalizing percussive shots and mangled vocal flourishes that pave the way down to a warped, abrasive chord sequence. Nestled in the gray areas between house and techno, "Octi" treads across murky waters with bold intentions as it contorts in a most aggressive fashion before leading us to an eerie, minimalistic breakdown. With the tension growing to gargantuan proportions as shrilling sirens run amok, Falke delivers a fabulous narcotic sense of confusion before allowing the corrosive lead to break free once more, making an absolute weapon out of our first cut.

On the flip side, John Falke graces us with "Tuk". Following a similar vein to "Octi", our second track paints a cavernous environment where deep percussive secuences lead the charge as quirky stabs entertain our attention before Falke unleashes an undulating bass that searches for higher ground at every stab. A most unique experiment, "Tuk" thrives on bewildering our senses while also imprinting its boisterous brand of pleasure, triggering a series of juxtaposed emotions that override our cognitive capacities.

State-of-the-art weaponry, John Falke's Octi EP is an imperial assault on the dancefloors that goes beyond the traditional confines, redesigning and rewiring the way pleasure is perceived for a weirdly exquisite joyride.
