Italian producer Ruben Mandolini lands on Great Stuff Recordings with a tasty 3-tracker, after having made appearances on Toolroom Trax, Riva Starr’s Snatch! Records and Mario Piu’s Fahrenheit Recordings. Channelling his country’s techno heritage, he’s come up with an excellent little collection.
Freaky Deaky is drenched in droning, atonal bass and super-snappy beats, moodily stomping its way through trippy vocal snippets and mind-bending FX on its way to a huge breakdown and drop combo. Carefully examine the layers of murkiness and you’ll find some low end funk there too.
Inside Me takes that tinge of funk and pushes into the track’s rhythm, discordant synth and percussive sounds punctuating the groove in infectious fashion as some seriously low slung bass throbs away. Super-sized breakdowns provide respite and contrast and help to complete a succinct but highly effective DJ weapon.
Orange County rounds off with more urgency and heavy beats, pounding the listener into submission with its punchy swagger. Clever little fills and phat drum programming sass things up, and the result is pure dancefloor gold with a brilliantly swung groove.
