Living My Life (The Layabouts Remixes)

DJ Spinna, Tricia Angus

Papa Records
PAPA049 | 2008-08-11
Following the success of last summer’s release of ‘Living My Life’, we decided to give the track a complete rejuvenation for 2008 and so what better people we thought could do the job than The Layabouts who are currently one

of the UK’s hottest up and coming production outfits!

The Layabouts are North London based trio Leigh, Alex and Ben who have been DJ-ing and producing music together for the last 7 years. This year saw the guys rise to stardom when they signed a deal with Kenny Dope’s new label Ill Friction (a Strictly Rhythm offshoot) and produced their first single 'Stand Up', which was arguably their best original work to date with a more deeper vibe and certainly caught our ear here at Papa.

The Layabouts have stamped there soulful techy sound all over this release and have offered up five incredible mixes to choose from. Re-working the song masterfully and creating a deep techy rhythm which is sure to wreck most summer dancefloors.

We’ve also included the ‘Original’, The Realm remixes aka Toni Economides (KV5) and Oli Lazarus (Reel People / Papa Records), who give us two mixes for the more soulful floors.

‘Living My Life’ was the fourth single taken from DJ Spinna’s ‘Intergalatic Soul’, which came out on Papa two years ago. The track saw Spinna pair up with New York soul songstress Tricia Angus to deliver a sublime slice of soulful house. Tricia Angus is best known for her vocals with New York singer and sometime Reel People collaborator Angela Johnson’s latest album ‘Got To Let Do’, which was released on UK soul label Dome Records.

Alongside Spinna and Tricia, ‘Living My Life’ features the soulful keys of Selan Lerner on Rhodes and Moog. Selan is a long time collaborator with Masters At Work and DJ Spinna, a member of the Free Radikalz (alongside Delouie, James Hurt & Spinna himself) and a highly sought-after musical director, session player and songwriter, working with world-class such as Roy Ayers, Guru, Pink, Stevie Wonder and Jill Scott.
