BNinjas returns to Piston Recordings with the fantastic three-track release titled ‘Bus Not Coming’. Based in Johannesburg SA, BNinjas has been crafting smooth, deep house tracks for years, with his early work featured on prominent South African labels before gaining international recognition. A firm favourite here at Piston HQ, it’s always a pleasure having him back at the label.
Opening the release we have ‘Bus Not Coming’ that weaves a mesmerizing blend of downtempo, lo-fi grooves with live-sounding beats that feel organic and raw. Surreal sequences drift in and out, creating an otherworldly vibe, while a deep analogue bassline anchors the track with a rich, resonant warmth. Sharp claps punctuate the rhythm, adding a crisp, snappy texture, while shuffling percussions subtly drive the groove forward. Up next, ‘Fat Cakes In The Noon’ takes the lo-fi, downtempo vibe to the next level, layering warm, inviting chords creating a nostalgic atmosphere. Subby bass plucks add a rhythmic pulse, grounding the track with a playful yet smooth groove. Surreal synth sequences drift through the mix, weaving intricate patterns that feel dreamlike and cosmic and deliver an immersive soundscape that is both deeply relaxing and subtly groovy. ‘Might Be’ concludes the EP, amplifying the deep house vibe with a raw, infectious groove that keeps the energy high. Gritty sounds and spoken vocals add an edgy tone, giving the track an underground feel. Thick basses rumble beneath, providing a powerful, weighty foundation, while surreal synths swirl and morph, adding a touch of the unexpected. A sublime deep house experience that's both gritty and hypnotic, perfect for late-night sets
