Lee Trax, also known by his techno alias Adam Carling, makes a compelling debut on Chicago's very own Fresh Meat Records with his latest EP, Blood Chicago. This four-track release showcases Trax's versatility and deep-rooted affinity for house music, each track reflecting his rich history in the genre.
The EP opens with the title track, "Blood Chicago," a chord-driven deep house groove that weaves together swinging percussion, resonant snares, and a robust subsonic bass line. Complemented by smoky trumpet riffs and a spoken word refrain exploring the ethos of underground music, this track sets a reflective yet rhythmic tone for the EP.
Following this is "Back," a track that ramps up the energy with a more driving, bass-heavy groove. Stripped back yet dynamic, "Back" features filtered, repetitive vocal refrains of "back back back," which are layered with dueling synths and piano chords. The track's linear but ever-evolving arrangement builds tension and maintains a steady, hypnotic drive, offering a fresh take on classic deep house aesthetics.
"Do What U Do" delves even deeper, presenting a moody, immersive experience. The track is characterized by reverse-filtered stabs and drones that create a vast, oceanic bass texture. Gentle, airy vocals drift across the groove, adding a touch of sweetness while remaining abstract and elusive. This track exemplifies Trax's ability to craft deeply atmospheric and nuanced soundscapes.
Rounding out the EP is "Sound Is Made For," a lo-fi house gem that infuses jazz elements with a nostalgic, vinyl-sampled texture. The hiss, pop, and crackle of the samples are repurposed into rhythmic and tonal elements, giving the track a warm, vintage feel. Echoing the wildpitch sound popularized in the 90s by heads like DJ Duke and DJ Pierre, this track adds an infectious, old-school flair to the EP.
Lee Trax's Blood Chicago EP is a testament to his skill and evolution as a producer. Each track offers a distinct yet cohesive take on deep house, blending rich, atmospheric textures with engaging rhythms and a touch of nostalgia. This release is a must-listen for fans of both classic and contemporary house music, showcasing Trax's ability to seamlessly bridge the past and present of the genre.
Composed, produced, and mixed by Lee Trax aka Adam Carling.
Tracks 1, 2, and 3 mastered by Maziar Namvar.
