The second EP of Yuksek new label Partyfin. In collaboration with The Magician.
Peter & The Magician, the exciting collaboration between scene heavyweights Yuksek and The Magician, have pulled another floor-destroying rabbit out of their hat, this time for Yuksek s exciting new label, Partyfine. The EP entitled On My Brain is set to cause a storm on June 24th.
The fruits of their last exchange culminating in their Memory EP last year left them hungry for more; their separate styles and influences have been harmonized yet again, giving birth to a huge three-track release to mark Yuksek s second instalment on his new imprint. The pair organized another European rendezvous, mixing their styles and influences to feature as the second Partyfine release.
We met in various clubs and on festival stages before we really got to know each other at Calvi, Corsica, three years ago, Yuksek explained, we had dinner together and decided to meet again after summer to record Stephen s next tracks and have him listen some tracks that would be on my second album. In the end, we begun work on one track, then two, and then the Peter & The Magician project was born!
On My Brain shows the huge crossover of the duo s styles and influences. The 4/4 beat provides a perfect background for an overlay of an intoxicating, euphoric concoction of disco, House, and 90s pop, summarized aptly by The Magician: It sounds like a 90 s dance tune from Chicago or New York with the Belgian touch and a classy French production. Stephen s idea to bring in Sophie Galpin s mesmerizing vocals to compound that 90s pop throwback feeling reflects the avant-garde of dance music right now. The only faux pas that surrounds this release would be not having it at your disposal.
The pair s north-European roots are perhaps most visible on the EP in the second track, entitled Peter Pan. Recorded as a one shot freestyle experimentation with just the drums set before hand, this, down-tempo B-side was completed after Pierre showed Vocalist JD Samson the instrumental. It took less than 24 hours for the strong, self-assured vocals to be included. With clear hip-hop, electronica, and indie influences, this track reflects the pairings noteworthy ability to cross over from their more usual sound and push their musical frontiers further than ever before.
