Tash's Movement Recordings opens the month of July by welcoming Tomy Wahl back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Argentina, Tomy Wahl has been a fixture of his country's electronic underground for the better part of a decade. With a sound that finds a cohesive balance between afro, progressive and melodic house, the Buenos Aires resident has compiled an impressive resume, notching releases on well-established imprints such as Eleatics, Sincopat and Stil Vor Talent, while earning support from Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin and Solomun. Movement Recordings has also been a landing spot for Tomy, with his label debut ‘Out of My Mind' coming in November of last year, a release which led to projects for Black Rose and Exx Underground. Now, following an EP project for Beatfreak Recordings, Tomy returns to Movement with ‘Vagator', alongside remixes from Tash and SEQU3l.

The EP's title selection 'Vagator' sets the pace and lands with many of Tomy's beloved production hallmarks. Tight kick drums and neatly manicured percussion provide a DJ friendly intro, as rhythmic pulses set the course for the bassline to deliver a rush of free-flowing energy. Cruising effortlessly across the first act, it's an amalgamation of high octane stabs, metallic effects and wonky synth mutations which add further depth and character, a vibe which is sure to cast an energetic mood over the dance floor. The Argentine's elusive vision shines during the main break, as he delivers a greater sense of tension through unpredictable modulation and phasing effects, a state of mind that astute fans will appreciate, before a striking drop sparks a strong groove driven finale. The companion piece ‘TrikMic' follows and showcases a more emotive side of Tomy's repertoire. Marrying the classic and contemporary sounds of the genre, the Argentine crafts a clever coax of wavy arps, clustered sonics and chirpy chord stabs for a rejuvenating vibe leading into the break. Here, drama and tension are at a premium, with a euphoric build eventually culminating in a stripped drop and effects-laden finale.

The lone interpretation of ‘Vagator' is provided by Movement Recordings boss Tash. The Greek artist impressed across 2023, carefully balancing his broad production palette via releases for Awen Records, If You Wait and Uxoa Dutxa Elite, while also continuing to travel the world as a DJ and in turn delighting crowds with his fresh track selection and exquisite programming skills. It was his home base of Movement however which served as the primary home for his premiere productions across 2023, with two EP projects for fledgling affiliate Movement Limited landing in July and December respectively, along with a well-received contribution to Movement's popular 'ProgNoesis' series. 2024 has already yielded highlights for the Greek talent, with the May release of ‘Banyan Blast' currently causing a stir across the spring club season. Now, presenting his first remix of the year, Tash returns to his home imprint with an epic take on ‘Vagator'. Bringing a progressive state of mind, the Greek artist carefully balances the themes from the original with his own character-rich sound. Timely effects and hopeful atmospheres steal the air atop thunderous beats and crunchy grooves; while a tastefully twisted break furthers melodic appeal, pushing onwards to a finale destined for summer dancefloor success.

The release concludes with SEQU3l returning to the label with the lone interpretation of ‘TrikMic'. With a career that spans well over a decade, Indian artist SEQU3l first emerged with a contribution to Freegrant Music's popular ‘New School' series. A relationship with Movement Recordings was also established early on with a remix of ‘Volt Afterhours' by Magitman and

Tash also landing in 2013, a release which set the course for nine additional appearances on the label across the next six calendar years. Beatfreak, Juicebox Music and Outta Limits would also be regular vehicles for SEQU3l's progressive minded sound. Of late however it has been a more techno-inspired approach which has been fueling the Indian artist's passion, in turn seeing him make impressive debut's on Music4Aliens and Senso Sounds. Now, bringing this vision to Movement Recordings, SEQU3l dials in a rousing rendition of ‘TrikMic' to add further depth and variety to the release. Taking a more stripped by equally effective dancefloor approach, SEQU3l constructs a tight rhythmic core, complemented with punchy beats, techno-flavoured percussion and reprocessed sonics. It's this fusion of sound which ultimately makes for a version that is both versatile and club-effective; one that should crossover to techno-minded dance floors during the summer season.
