Good For You Records label head Kenny Summit delivers another tasteful underground heater, this time a tribute to a duo that has been an inspiration to music lovers for decades: GANG STARR. One of Kenny Summit's first gigs in NYC back in the mid 90's took place at the infamous Tunnel; opening up for none other than DJ Premier in the basement, an experience that stuck with him throughout his career. STEEZ encompasses the feel good, raw style that Gang Starr was known for while maintaining a respect for house that is often lost in attempts to combine the two genres. An excellent use of sampling, a unique arrangement, and key use of vocals taken from interviews with the legendary GURU (RIP) highlight this release.
