Twirl, the renowned imprint spearheaded by the esteemed duo Shaun J. Wright & Alinka, has consistently cultivated a reputation for delivering exceptional electronic music releases.
Building upon their success with a plethora of acclaimed artists such as Kim Ann Foxman, Spencer Parker, and Virginia, Twirl is thrilled to announce the addition of Berlin-based music producer and filmmaker, Serge G. Serge previously graced Twirl with his illustrious talents for a remix of Erta Ale’s swirling “For Real”, and the label is elated to welcome him to their prestigious roster with a release of his own.
Serge's much-anticipated debut on Twirl, the "Spanish Cassette EP," showcases his unique musical prowess and serves as a testament to Twirl's commitment to championing emerging talent. The EP comprises two dance floor anthems: ‘Work It Out’ and the titular track, ‘Spanish Cassette’, alongside remixes for both tunes from DJ Holographic and Shaun J. Wright, respectively.
The original mix of ‘Spanish Cassette’ is a dynamic mix of banging percussion, ethereal pads, and a chunky bassline that winds through the lush piano chords in a slinky, unpredictable pattern. Serge doesn’t shy away from blending, pumping and sensual elements, a surefire method to entice any dance floor.
‘Work It Out’ pushes the bump to even further heights, revisiting the ethereal pad workout of the prior offering but moving it into a more haunting, ominous sphere. Skittering vocal samples weave effortlessly between the stomping kick and baseline, accentuating the tracks smooth, sexy groove.
Continuing the EP's sonic journey, Shaun J. Wright's remix takes center stage. Dramatic flamboyance is the best way to describe Wright’s deconstruction and reassembling of ‘Spanish Cassette’. At times extraterrestrial, Wright’s rework takes the original all the way to the edge of sonic exploration.
Adding a brilliant touch to round out the EP, Detroit's very own DJ Holographic presents a captivating remix that returns the EP back to earth with a funky, soul-warming
