Continuing with the digital re-launch of the Alola back catalogue we revisit another classic from the late 90s, Sixteen Souls ‘Late Night Jam EP’. Sixteen Souls, a moniker of label boss Omid 16B and close friend and head of the Glasgow underground imprint, Kevin McKay, was an outlet for a deeper, funkier house side to his sound and ‘Late Night Jam EP’ oozes just that. The title track combines irresistibly funky keys and bassline, with laid back percussion and ambient soundscapes. ‘On My Mind’ and Omid’s In Bed mix of ‘Strange Girls’ are both equally blissful cuts that see a chunky groove unfold whilst lush vocals float over the top. Testament to the quality of the production, all three of these tracks sound just as good today as they did in the late 90s, now having been re-mastered and available digitally for the first time. Enjoy.
