It was a rainy day in March, 1983 when Easy Street Records began its exciting journey as an independent house music label. It didn't take long for it's impact to be felt with hits from Monyaka/"Go Deh Yaka" and Hot Streak/"Body Work", both of which were top 20 pop chart hits that Summer in the UK and Europe. Other groundbreaking hits from the 80's included Serious Intention/"You Don't Know" (Paul Simpson), Cultural Vibe/"Ma Foom Bey" (Winston Jones) and Adeva/"In & Out of My Life" (Smack Productions). Each one of those 12" standards were dancefloor staples spun by Larry Levan at the legendary Paradise Garage, Tony Humphries at NJ's Club Zanzibar and Jellybean at The Fun House in NYC.
The 90's produced a close association with Blaze (Kevin Hedge & Josh Milan) culminating in a worldwide hit by De'Lacy/"Hideaway" (Deep Dish Remix), followed by "That Look", and Kathy Brown/"Happy People. Cassio, Darryl D'Bonneau and Bluejean, were just several of the talents that contributed to a string of underground 12" dancefloor successes throughout the 90's All of these releases were supported and carried in the crates of clubland's most respected DJ's including Louie Vega, Timmy Regisford, Roger Sanchez and countless others.
2023 is Easy Street's 40th anniversary and it's being celebrated with a fantastic 2 record vinyl release featuring some of the most important club records from the 80's and 90's. Hope you enjoy listening as much as we did making these enduring club hits.
