"My journey with this song began when I was still at school. I was a big Suzanne Vega fan and had her "Solitude Standing" album on repeat. I moved to Glasgow in late 89, and by 1990 I had started DJing. Early that year, I read about a club mix of "Tom's Diner" in Jocks (now DJ) Magazine. So I tracked down a white label at the main DJ store, 23rd Precinct, and it became a staple in my sets. The song (now known as DNA featuring Suzanne Vega) blew up that summer. It was top 10 in many countries and sound tracked my first summer of raving. Fast-forward 33 years, and I am looking for songs to rework at our Superfeel party in Dalston. I talked to a friend about "Tom's Diner" during that session. He told me DNA disbanded as they were on the cusp of a huge record contract. Apparently, the duo couldn't agree on the deal; the DJ half wanted to do it, and the musician did not. The story did not end in sadness, though, as the DJ went on to found Lovehoney.com, a sex toy company he sold to a private equity firm for millions! Here is my version of "Tom's Diner", which I have been refining at all our recent events. Just like in 1990, this simple, catchy-as-hell song always works a treat on the floor."
