Back after a stint on sister label Fluid Electronics in 2021, with the juicy “Fluid Files Vol.2", the US-based wizard graces us with “The Soul Messenger EP” - a duo of laid-back club heaters stamped with his trademark suave, sci-fi-informed touch, plus an extra remix by Fluid Electronics’ Klankarbeit.
Staying true to the velveteen house vibrations that’ve been the driving force to most of his seminal records through nearly three decades of deck-steering mythology, Voorn drops a proper textbook sample of his lush and unhindered vision for house and techno music. Inspired by Larry Heard’s sound, “The Soul Messenger” packs that infectious mix of debonair soulfulness and hi-tech jazz that made the master’s reputation, injected with Voorn’s own versatile palette of pumping dynamics, next-level machine talk and otherworldly funk.
Somehow the 2022-born twin to Voorn’s epic “Format 1 - Solid Session", “Smooth Operator” rolls up its sleeves and pulls out a potent artillery of knee-buckling kicks, intricate drum work on the steely side of the spectrum, and bleached-out synth swashes screaming intergalactic bliss.
