Portuguese artist Edward Bei aka Deebop returns to Piston Recordings after his well-received debut slice – Promised Land EP, with the equally fantastic It’s You EP. Edward is a musically attuned voyager, keenly exploring dimensions between Ambient and Techno music. He incorporates the various sounds of nature; rain dripping steadily, the yielding flow of water down a stream, and the wind rustling the leaves of a tree. His sound is minimalistic and has a simplicity in its core that creates an atmosphere of calmness. Great to see him back once again.
It’s You opens the EP, delivering a fine slice of deep house goodness. Chunky beats and crispy hats combine for that classic twist while powerful chord stabs marry with the bass to create a syncopated rhythm. Various vocals make a showing adding a dynamic to the groove and complimenting the airy atmospherics. Top-notch stuff. Orange Sky is next, taking us on a trip deeper into house music. A nice, punchy kick and striking closed hi hat set the scene as mesmerizing chords rise up. Plucky basses add a funky element to the groove as a soulful voice delivers that killer blow. Funky Soul Temple rounds out the release with a deep, slow burning groove. Set on a bed of shuffling percussions and chunky beats, warm, pulsating chords add depth as a strong bass shores up the low-end. Diva-esque vocal shots add character to this minimalistic effort that will not disappoint.
