Watch out – here Mene comes! Bumping house out of Belgrade, Mene gets revolving with a career ready to escalate. Previously tipping off Elrow, Sura Music and Toolroom as to his dancefloor knowhow, Jamie Jones, Loco Dice, Marco Carola and The Martinez Brothers have all got in on the Mene manifesto that has progressed into the major festival circuit, and seen him head up his own TOZLA tech house label. Deep and bubbly with a twitch is what Mene means when he starts circling for Clarisse, and heavy rotation is the ultimate way to go for these two tracks.
Mene takes the shortest route to the heart of the party - uptempo beats, sharp back-and-forth shunts of bass and unlimited click-clack percussion - but ‘Spin Me Around’ adds enough twists and turns to get bodies doing backflips until they’re inside out. Major players lounging by the bar provide drawling, drawn out vocals, hustling in the vicinity of crazy synth passages which sound like they’re either being gargled, or malfunctioning in awe of Mene keeping a cool head while making all around lose theirs.
‘High Score’ kicks on with a bassline ducking and jumping like your favourite platform game, adding an extra dimension of funkiness bit by bit. Mene mounts his challenge to climb the leaderboard with computerised spirals and a willowy, peaceful riff sounding like he’s tunefully navigating an alien frequency, with rap shout outs again passing through to shoot the breeze. Playing by the Clarisse rulebook where ear-catching scraps and fragments come and go while beats and bass stays true, a pretty intense breakdown shows that while Mene makes things sound easy, ‘High Score’ is no easy ride.
