Erdi Irmak is a renowned figure across the Proton Music and Particles catalogues, accounting for over 60 production credits between the two labels. As prolific as he is talented, the Turkish artist has seen his "Hidden Arcadia" series become a regular source of evocative and powerful original music, backed by a series of high-profile remixes.
Returning to Proton after recent excursions on When We Dip XYZ, Songspire Records and Tale and Tone, the Erdi Irmak remix of "Substrate" is an immaculately crafted affair that engages through complex percussive arrangement before a swathe of new production material takes the melodic elements of the original and transforms them into an emotive new interpretation. String passages and rhythmic synth motifs create sumptuous counterpoint phrasing, while Rudy's central piano elements ripple and meander through the 7-minute piece with ease. The result is a track that showcases Erdi's skill, talent and technique in glorious harmonic technicolour.
Through his Weird Sound Dude moniker, Abhijith Hegde is an artist who has continued to develop a powerful production persona. Able to transcend the progressive house genre with his forays into organic house and a distinctive sound, Weird Sounding Dude is a name that has grown in stature and momentum with high-profile releases for the likes of Anjunadeep, Hoomidaas and Mango Alley.
Now making his Proton Music debut, the Weird Sounding Dude remix of "Different Line" immediately tantalises with a bright rolling groove and deep kick. Building in effortless fashion, an array of pads and textures are layered beneath an intelligently cadenced synth line. Using Rudy's piano elements to devastating effect, they flow through the second half to create a beautifully weighted melodic flow that encapsulates the themes of the original while showcasing Weird Sounding Dude's production credentials.
