Our 48th release sees Kalyx present 'The Clear' EP.
Kalyx is a Progressive House producer based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Exploring deep melodic and uplifting melodies which borderlines emotional harmonies and 'out there' combinations of resonances. His sounds can be described as old school rhythms and drum pockets blended with modern twists using creative synthesis, driving arps, hooks and breakdowns. Raised on the West Coast, matured in Cape Town and now ripening in the scene of Johannesburg, his debut EP is the perfect balance between organic and progressive.
We brought on Genesis label owner, Michael A to remix the title track for this EP. Michael A has released on prestigious world-famous labels such as SUDBEAT, Replug, Armada.
Starting things off with the title track, 'The Clear' is a track filled with organic percussion, held together by the deep driving bassline. The automated synth and ambient textures carries the track and gives off a feeling of nostalgia.
Micheal A gives us a fresh take on 'The Clear' with his signature bassline and adds his infectious sound design to the melody that elevates its ambience while staying true to the core of the track.
Finally, 'Allo' is a smooth laid-back track with an offbeat bassline. The arp has a swing feel to it that keeps the track light but groovy.
Kalyx had this to say when asked about the inspiration behind the EP:
'The Clear's inspiration came out of the emotional state that a world-wide pandemic brought upon us all...during times of anxiety, panic and different opinions, all we needed was a 'clearing' in our vision, a change in our ways. Very much inspired by a culmination of sounds including the likes of Christoph, Franky Wah, Deviu, Passenger 10, Daniel Portman and more. The track infuses two worlds clearly with two distinct breaks and driving features that illuminates the world of crazy as well as the world of clarity. The rolling bass and rhythmical unity really gives one the sense of elation...typically emotes the need for change.
The term 'Allo' means to be different, other than. It veers off the typical convention of current releases and encompasses a world where to be different, can be refreshing. 'Allo' sits on the deeper side of the Melodic House spectrum, and also has a slower tempo with a thick lush bass to take you back to the days when Trance, House and slower tempos became a backbone in electronic music.'
