“Bring Out The Best is about finally realising my worth and that I have now decided I want the best out of life and myself” Sahala explains. Talking about the concept of the EP she adds: “Nectar is the sweet substance from flowers that attracts bees and insects to help pollinate and with this EP I wanted to showcase a sweetness from my soul, sweet soul food for everyone to absorb and in essence pollinate their own creativity, whether it inspires their spark of creativity or awakens them spiritually. Nectar (in Greek and Roman mythology) is the drink of the Gods.”
Granddaughter of Ghanian giant and jazz legend George Lee Larnyoh who joined forces with Bob Marley and Louie Armstrong, Sahala’s first taste of being in music was for a New Zealand hip-hop collective where she resided, before relocating to join the Mancunian community and to study music.
A renowned MC and a core figure of the Manchester scene, infamous for his collaborations with Dub Phizix and Skeptical, Strategy turned his hand to producing with releases on Exit Records and Tru Thoughts. Holding down a radio residency on NTS Manchester and a regular DJ on Keep Hush (the community answer to Boiler Room) Strategy is as equally skilled on the beats as behind the mic.
The duo began collaborating when Sahala returned to Manchester from New Zealand (where she first heard Strategy’s global hit “Marka” with Dub Phizix & Skeptical). “I saw Strategy at an event and I actually messaged him saying I’d love to collaborate and he messaged back saying he was a fan of my voice after hearing me on Bloc2Bloc. Our spirits got to work and here we are.” Sahala explains.
