MBR450 | 2021-09-17
In 2018, Samba Toure's 'Mana Yero Koy' wondered "Where to go." Well, the gem off of the Malian singer/guitarist's 'Wande' album crossed over the new decade into the deft fingers of some of today's most innovative electronic music producers. MBR450 begets two remixes by Engrave labelhead and veteran DJ/producer, Musumeci, and Bayaka Records' namesake duo. Starting things off with panache, Mauro Di Martino revs his reinterpretation with a swanky vintage drum beat. Imbuing suave Italo flavors and interspersing cosmic synthetic inflections, Musumeci accentuates Samba Toure's soulful lyrics and riffs with nostalgia for the future, and a signature touch that is striking and remarkably his own. On the other side, Bayaka closes the fort with vitality. The Italian duo has handled Toure's music for us before, and the synergy was astonishing. We get that same magic here. Marrying crisp electronic modulations with propulsive rhythms and prolific organic sounds, this remix is a love affair between human and machine, heart and instruments, being and groove.
