KYOTTO

Dopamine White
DPW048 | 2021-09-10
Hitting the heart of the summer season, Nikko.Z's Dopamine White showcases new interpretations of KYOTTO's I Am Back' EP. Originally released in August of 2020 the three-track showcase marked the Sri Lankan's label debut, furthering his steady climb through the progressive underground. April of this year saw the first installment of remixes from I Am Back', with Deviu and Carlos Pires delivering unique takes on Antimony' and Sweet Escape'. Now looking to further revitalize said tracks for the summer season, Dopamine White invites Subandrio, D.J. MacIntyre and Alan Cerra to provide their own interpretations.

Getting the release underway with the first interpretation of Antimony' is Subandrio who makes his label debut. As one of his country's most highly regarded progressive music talents, the Sri Lankan artist has long been a favourite of genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Releases on Cid Inc's Replug Records, Balance Music and Sudbeat sit prominently in his discography, as he continues to lie amongst the progressive house elite. Now fresh off a well received remix for Clubsonica Records, Subandrio debuts on Dopamine White with a powerful take on Antimony'. Staying true to the main themes from the original the Colombo resident opens up the framework for a modern feel, while reprocessed effects, driving percussion and buoyant tones unite in a colourful symphony of sound. The second of two breaks furthers the remixes emotional appeal, gently teasing the senses with clustered electronics, before melting down to the thumping groove and a cosmic finale.

The second and final interpretation of Antimony' is provided by D.J. MacIntyre who also makes his label debut. Hailing from California, the US artist owns a healthy discography, highlighted by appearances on 3rd Avenue, Beatfreak, Clubsonica, Droid9 and his own SLC-6 Music imprint. Well travelled as a DJ, the Santa Barbara resident has appeared at some of the world's most prestigious events, most notably Burning Man and the Lucidity Festival, while also showcasing his borderless programming skills in Moscow, Siberia and all across the United States. Now as a perpetual highflyer in Beatport's sales charts, D.J. MacIntyre debuts on Dopamine White with a superb interpretation of Antimony'. Opting for more of an astral techno vibe, the American artist focuses on a darker, more electric narrative, resulting in a great complement to the original. Commanding yet mysterious, it's fiery percussion, pulsating rhythms and machine gun style groove make for an intense first act. Icy pads open up the framework as the main break approaches, eventually stripping down to a rhythmic pulse as modulation rises towards cavernous drop and devilish conclusion.

The release concludes with a third label debutant Alan Cerra who provides the lone interpretation of Sweet Escape'. Based in Argentina, Alan first appeared on the progressive music scene in 2019 with a contribution to 3rd Avenue's popular We Are The Future' series. 2020 then proved to be a breakout year, with Alan showcasing his music via Antrim's Strangers Beats, Miss Monique's Siona Records, Michael A's Genesis Music and D-Formation's Beatfreak Limited. Now in a year that has seen further successes, Alan debuts on Dopamine White with a progressive take on Sweet Escape'. A touch bigger than the original, its rolling framework is offset with flickering arps and sweeping effects. Keeping the mood squarely on the dance floor, melodic overlays and clustered chimes provide a bridge into the main break, where striking stabs elevate mood and tension onwards to an epic finale. Progressive house excellence once again from Alan Cerra, which rounds out a massive remix edition for KYOTTO's I Am Back' EP.
