Dennis Allen returns to Monog Records after a bit of a hiatus with the fantastic, Listening To The Stars EP, which follows his impressive debut from 2018, Tree Of Self EP. Dennis grew up listening mostly to Hip Hop through the 90’s, and by the year 2000 he started to produce, learning instruments and finding his niche within the scene. He soon swayed towards electronic dance music where he discovered an urge to DJ and found himself playing top clubs in his home town. He still doesn't know where this love of music came from, he didn't come from a very musical family and wasn't taught instruments as a child. One thing is true, the typical Dennis Allen sound is a symbiosis of abstract elements and percussive tones, which he likes to form into a driving mass, laying on deep surfaces and accentuated with spherical sounds.

Italian artist Airbas kicks off the EP with his interpretation of Listening To The Stars. No stranger to Monog, he delivered the superb Lost In Love EP alongside Uglytakeone just a few short months ago. On the remix here, he dishes out a smooth, deep, flowing groove, made up of silky basses, mesmerizing arpeggios and beautifully rhythmic beats and percussions which are accentuated by enchanting vocals. The original Mix of Listening To The Stars is next, with Dennis taking us deep into the groove with haunting sounds and captivating voices. Sharp synth plucks slice through the low frequencies, contrasting brilliantly against a solid drum and percussion arrangement. Next up, we have Dennis’ second track, Midnight Turn with a solid remix from Iman Deeper who delivered a tight remix of LaTriq’s The Night Kitchen EP back in the Summer of 2020. Here, Iman eases us into the groove with punchy breaks and swirling atmospheres. A plucky bass is joined by mystical motifs before the 4x4 beat comes through, setting the groove alight, bringing us deeper into the abyss. Rounding out the release, we have the Original Mix of Midnight Turn, which offers up a warm, embracing groove. Deep, hypnotic basses rule as delicate melodic notes scatter throughout. Hair-raising vocals accompany the hypnotic groove making this an absolute must have.
