Bulder

Arnodd

Manjumasi
MAMA026 | 2021-07-23
Release twenty-six on Manjumasi comes from Norweigan artist Øyvind Vie Berg, aka Arnodd. On the Bulder EP he presents three originals with beautiful sound design and impressive narrative arc. Each of these tracks tells a story, with melodic elements weaving together with dark percussion and a strong sense of atmosphere.

Title track Bulder is the darkest of the EP, with a very strong percussion laying the foundation for haunting, mysterious melodic elements and a deep, rumbling bassline. Next up is Sun, which lightens the mood, exploring brighter territory with a more optimistic, uplifting lead section. Finally, the third original Kjedelig slows things down, using a lower tempo to really emphasize the groove, with delayed hi-hats stuttering over a very hypnotic bassline that anchors the whole track.

Rounding out the EP is a wonderful remix from the Dutch producer Love Over Entropy, which defies any simple genre categorization. This down-tempo interpretation of Sun turns this piece of music into a real cinematic affair, with the bell-tone melodics of the original wrapped up in a warm blanket of continuously evolving pads and sonic details.
