Release The Rhythm

Mateo & Matos

Glasgow Underground

Kevin McKay met Mateo & Matos while he was writing for Muzik magazine back in 1997. He had just set up Glasgow Underground and was supplementing his DJ income with some journalism. In the interview, John Mateo & Eddie Matos had both complained that their New York labels were not interested in their deeper tracks. Kevin said he would love to release their more musical cuts, so John & Eddie sent him a selection of tunes. The mix they sent had the perfect combination of melody and groove, warm-up and peak-time. So Kevin turned it into "New York Rhythms", their debut artist album. That began a relationship that continues today. The first single from that album was "Release The Rhythm", a cut that was both musical and heavy-hitting for the floor, and so it seemed fitting that it would be the first one to be remixed for today's floors. Stepping up on remix duties is our own Sam Dexter, who takes M&M's looping Rhodes and jazzy licks and forms them into a brilliant DJ-friendly deep house groove.
