Four Play Music
FPM005 | 2014-02-23
This release marks the return of the Chicago based four play music brand and wonderful compilation to kick the label back into the worldwide House Music market. “Caught The Feeling” was initially released on FPM.002 and with the early success four play music decided to enlist an All-Star cast of remixers to the drawing board to make this an even more memorable addition to the catalogue.
A1 Nick Santillian Dub – Nick, no stranger to the west coast feel harnessed in Chicago brings that Loveslap vibe that he is known for to this mix. It starts with super solid beats with some nice organic percussion loops that blend very well with the distinct drum programming. The nice bass licks begin to mix well with the smooth guitar lines that lead us into the first snippets of the original vocals. This nice smooth dub leads into a wonderful spaced out break down before bringing back the original arrangement and closing out this nice take on CTF.
A2 Gene Farris Remix – Gene, the Chicago disco legend and house music heavyweight, does his version of this song starting with some nice percussion and drum loops complimented with the vocal snippet that will be the only vocal throughout the whole mix. A very nice synth pad enters and leads us through the break that brings in the signature bass line he is known for. After a short stint in that arrangement we are lead to the next part of this version through a arrpeggiated Nord Lead line that takes us to a nice jazzy chords section that eventually take us back to the first arrangement and thus: the finale.
B1 Glenn Underground CVO Neon Remix- Glenn, one of the most prolific producers to ever come from Chicago, IL, bless's us with his own touch on this release and takes “The Feeling” it even further. Glenn enlists an unknown singer to interoperate the concept of “Caught The Feeling” with new lyrics and libretto. Starting with a simple intro arrangement that morphs into a sort of smoothed out George Clinton type funk feel accented with his classic keyboard tickling. This mix is a tour de force as it goes through constant change and eventually moves to a Georgio Moroder meets South Side Chicago Soul feel as GU continues to tease with keys and the dubbed vocal.
B2 Gene Hunt Dub- Gene, a true Chicago House Music pioneer, gives us his subtle take on “The Feeling” by starting with some nice electronic keys and an afro-funk feel. This is exclaimed by a very short break that brings in the four/four and new arrangements of the original vocal. This arrangement incorporates a few subtle changes and breaks throughout the entire mix while sprinkling it with a few vibes, synth, and transposition accents before finishing the same way we started.
