PITS is happy to share our first full-length album release entitled D.R.E.A.M (Devils Rule Everything Around Me) from HeLa Negative! HeLa in his moniker pays respect to one of the most important figures in black history, Henrietta Lacks. A woman whose genetic material was stolen and is still used in innumerable medical experiments because of its unique genetic properties. With D.R.E.A.M, HeLa Negative channels the visceral feelings of living in an illusory system controlled by forces waging a multi-front war. A system seeking to exploit the intrinsic genetic value of people of color but also undermine their psychological and spiritual autonomy. These tracks are an emotional and often cathartic meditation stemming from the collective feelings of black people living in a world of conflict. Tracks were created on analog equipment between 2019-2021, during the height of the uprisings protesting police killings & health inequity amidst the pandemic.
