Sinchi - Altered States Vol.4

Various Artists

SIN012 | 2021-06-11
Sinchi returns with a fourth fantastic volume of its Altered States compilation featuring a wealth of innovative artists from Italy, Mexico, Russia, the UK and Montenegro. As always, the label will donate all money from sales to the Sinchi Foundation, supporting indigenous peoples worldwide.

Pim Secle & Pelzensers are first up and hail from Montenegro. They have been in electronic music for several years as solo artists and are known for experimenting with different genres, from electronica to breakbeat to techno. 'Skankamode' is their first collaboration and is a free-fusion of synth, disco and electro built on nimble drums and finished in style with lush future-retro chords.

Dany E Is part of the Bordello A Parigi roster and is an overseas
promoter of one of the hottest parties in Mexico, namely SundaySunday. Over 15 years, he has landed on a wide range of labels and played worldwide. His superb tune 'Jadba' (a name given to honour the sample source) is a rugged, hard-hitting synth-wave offering with sleazy beats and slick, angular synths that demand you march along and off into the future.

After previous EPs on, Welofi, Bosconi and Dance Petrol Records, Italian artist LA Kena is now bringing some heat to Sinchi Collective. His finely crafted electro track 'Panda' was primarily inspired by the car of the same name. The exact vehicle also donated most of the samples to the song, which is a brilliantly bumpy ride through trancey arpeggiators, broken beats and dreamy pads.

Bulgakov has a background playing rock drums for Moscow indie band Gin & Milk but now creates his own electronic music and marks a fine debut with 'Navsegda,' a Russian word written in Latin that means "forever". It's a terrific track built on tight, tough drums, with loopy and rugged synth arps that take you ever higher as the punk-tinged beat slaps and kicks along beneath.

Milan based sound designer and engineer Grand Riviera has long been fascinated by synthesised music and sound manipulation. His slow and sludgy, warped techno wig-out 'Motel Casablanca' is a fine demonstration of that and sounds like a distant vision of abandoned buildings, with menace around every corner and freaky synth motifs that hook you in ever further.

Lastly, ILMO is a new project initiated by a Sinchi Collective co-founder who simply turns on their machines with no actual plans other than to see what comes out the other side. In the case of 'Abra Cadabra', that is an incredibly loose and bendy groove with intoxicated lead synths, crispy broken beats and haunting riffs full of character.

This robust collection of tracks is typically diverse from the Sinchi Collective, and as always, each one is thrillingly original and hugely effective.
