6 Fragments Remixes

Arno Vancolen

EPM Music
EPM89-D | 2021-04-02
In November 2020 EPMmusic released the debut solo album by French musician, Arno Vancolen. ‘6 Fragments’ combined elements of indie rock grooves, avant-garde electronics and classical minimalism. To accompany the album is this quartet of remixes by Sonic Boom, The Fear Ratio, Cristian Vogel and Bryan Chapman.

Based in Rouen, Arno Vancolen (in his various post-punk guises) has shared the stage with Michael Rother, Faust and Wire and produced several albums with his electronic rock group, Steeple Remove. Drawing from a background of industrial, noise, krautrock and post-punk his gravitation towards electronic music resulted in a collaborative remix with Laurent Garnier, and a track on the Code QR label.

Respected producer Sonic Boom (Peter Kember) needs little introduction after nearly 4 decades in music as co-founder of Spacemen 3, E.A.R. (Experimental Audio Research) and Spectrum. Under his solo guise he turns in the first of two remixes of the album’s opener ‘Venus Loop Revisité’ - a glittering affair that demonstrates his exceptional skill. It’s followed by long-time collaborators James Ruskin and Mark Broom who deliver a dub-fuelled reworking of ‘Saturn Studio’ under their experimental moniker, The Fear Ratio. Next up, Cristian Vogel who recently released his critically acclaimed 25th album ‘Rebirth of Wonky’ chops ‘Substance #2’ into a gritty staccato. While Bryan Chapman who’s new Ròta EP was released on EPMmusic in February, returns with the second ‘Venus Loop Revisité’ remix full of dreamy atmosphere for the EP’s closure.
