Avision returns to Ben Sims’ Hardgroove imprint this March with the ‘What I Say EP' featuring a remix from Paul Mac’s Jorge Zamacona alias.
Across the four-track EP, the follow up to 2018’s ‘Culture’ on Sims’ long-running techno institution, the New York producer focuses on the funkier, groovier side of techno. The title-cut doesn’t mess about with a swung hat-heavy groove, tight looping baseline and swelling string samples combining to create a properly stirring piece of techno that remembers its roots. Similarly ‘All Groove’ and ’Send Off' pay homage to Detroit but joyfully betray Avision’s NY roots in terms of production grit. UK techno hero, Paul Mac, dons his 90s TV referencing Zamacona cap to deliver a stylish and detailed interpretation of ’Send Off’ that uses tripping, broken rhythms and soaring vocals perfectly, deftly showing off why his catalogue for the likes of Mosaic is so revered.
