ChubaChiki

Piston Recordings
PR2021566 | 2021-01-08
2021 begins by welcoming DJ and producer duo ChubaChiki to Piston Recordings with Beau’s Molly. ChubaChiki is a collaboration between Ricardo Argomaniz from Costa Rica and Corazon De Melon aka Sir-Siljian from NYC. Their production style ranges from the use of analog drum machines and synths, to sample heavy, in-the-box sequencing. Always rooted in House music, the boys use their musical knowledge and friendship of over 2 decades to come up with clean, jazzy, dance floor orientated tracks. Ricardo has been on the scene for a while now. He started out in the early 2000’s as Maha and has shared the stage with a host of top jocks. He is the founder of Casa Club Records. While he is debuting here as a duo, he is no stranger to Piston having released the superb Destination Loop alongside Luis Bravo in the Autumn of 2019. New York City based Corazon De Melon is marking his debut here. He’s been a vibrant force on the scene for many years and has been churning out some quality house music joints in that time. An exciting duo, we’re delighted to have on board.

We kick off with the title track, Beau’s Molly, which sets mood to a playful tone with a cheeky, plucky intro. Varied drums create a tapestry of rhythms, with influences from several genres seeping through. The up and down bassline draws attention, uplifting the vibe nicely as cool vocals come through. A simple yet effective construction, and one that will definitely keep the feet shuffling to the groove.

The Original Mix of Jazz Improvisation intros with an authentic, organic style drum kit, with the cymbals sounding particularly crisp. Warm piano chords dominate as a jazz inspired bassline gets the hips shaking. Delicate notes are joined by distinctive sax riffs, giving the track a live vibe. Super smooth and sophisticated lounge rhythms, not to be missed.

Italian DJ and producer Marcus Raute returns on the remix duties with his Mallets Mix of Jazz Improvisation. We last Saw Marcus here back in 2019 on the remix for Luis Bravo & Ricardo Argomaniz’s Destination Loop. At that time, he’d already established himself on Piston with 4 quality releases and as many remixes since 2014. Now based in London, he has featured on Plastic City, Lapsus Music and Seven Music, and as a partner in collective projects featured on Sccucci Manucci, Dabit Records, Exotic Refreshment and many more. Marcus had spent time between Naples and Berlin where, no doubt, he drew from both cultures to refine his own sounds. He is a player in the modern underground world where he dishes out his brand of all things House and Techno and, it’s a pleasure to see him back at Piston. Here, Marcus lures us into a jazz fuelled groove with a rich, live sound. Suave and elegant, the groove melts effortlessly into your soul as a myriad of instruments dish out varying sequences which keep the groove flowing. Top-notch stuff, a must have.
