The Ground

Sometimes everything fits perfectly into place, time and space. Case in point: one unassuming week last September when Florian Kruse and Hendrik Burkhard held their first ever writing session. In that one week alone they penned such a vast amount of material for some of the most forward-thinking, respected imprints in house and techno its almost unreal. First came Skylines on Noir Music, then Broken Mirror on Jeudi, then We Own The Night on Noir Music, then Move In Slow Motion and Hold On on Poker Flat. And still the soul-touching creations keep coming The final two original tracks the pair wrote together in that one incredibly prolific week come courtesy of Joris Voorns GREEN imprint. Mirroring the sensitive balance of life as we know it, The Ground is written for those times when the world is far from in the right place And nothing in time and space can amend it. Those moments when we feel were freefalling into oblivion and there seems no escape or solution are all conjured into an emotional storm through Hendriks evocative poetic vocals as Florian ploughs the same level of personal emotion into the timeless groove beneath where poignant chords and textured ripples shimmer with star-gazing cinematica in all the right places. Touched by the original, Joris has also added his own envisioned version: enhancing the emotion and delivery of the original with the delicate drama of bold piano strikes in the fore and lavish orchestral strings in back, its a touching twist that amplifies the surging sentiment of the original. Finally we hit Going Against The Grain. Carved with equal level of emotional focus, imagination and detail, Hendriks sparse vocals delicately drape themselves like a half mast flag over Florians robust, relentless beats. As vibrant spirals of synth ripple from whisper to scream and back again, everything about the composition and colour and construction live up to the track title. Both road-tested live on tour supporting Claptone to successful effect, this might be the last of the incredible star-aligned week Florian and Hendrik spent together in the studio But its not the last weve heard from them as a duo. Call it an emotional finale of chapter one. We cant wait to hear whats next
