The sounds of the past join the sounds of the present to be the main ingredients for “Mi Abuelo” (Grandpa). Made as an homage, this is an EP that smells like mountains and coffee from Quindío in Colombia, that evocates Tango music and old guitar melodies, that along Funk and House Music vibes, communicates a musical emotion in 2 versions, a summary of love for music as an intangible energy that never disappears, but just evolves and goes from generation to generation. “Mi Abuelo” (Grandpa) is an idea that was born 89 years ago, that grew and settled down in the middle of the Colombian mountains. From its origin on guitars, bambucos and tangos played on the gramophone, echoing on the mountains, we get to this EP composed by: 1. Original Jimenez Mix: Groove is on the heart of this version. Based on joy and celebration feelings, Cales & Mr Hyde, present a fusion of tango music and funk that ends on a jackin` house track, with a perfect vibe for the dance floor. 2. Deep Buenavista Mix: This second version contains a totally different mood: melodic, thoughtful, immerse in tango music, with a deep and warm feeling, full of good vibes and love for the Abuelos’s story and origin. 3. Jorge Jaramillo Remix: Infused with Latin and Afro-Colombian rhythms and melodies elevates this mix to Latin American glory. The instruments and melodies work in harmony to take us on a journey across Colombia’s musical landscape telling the story of how this then young explorer “Abuelo” discovered land that would later become the small quiet Colombian town of Buenavista. The powerful sounds and rhythms are held tightly in place by the Tambor Alegre, a percussion instrument predominant of the Pacific Coastal region of Colombia. 4. Deep Radio Edit: Special 4.30 min edition for Radio. Cales & Mr Hyde says about Mi Abuelo that, “it is a long overdue homage to mi abuelo (My Grandpa). Pedro Nel Jimenez Alzate (born in Buenavista – Quindío, Colombia-, 1931) was a really special human being, that left a deep and positive mark in my life. He is an essential part of myself and my love for music. He was the first one that taught me to listen and to love the wonderful world of sounds”. On the other hand, Jorge Jaramillo, New York House Music Master, and artist behind the cover art as well, affirms: “If you ever wondered what House Music, Colombian percussions an 80-year story of vision and passion would sound like, here is your chance”
