Culled from a period beginning in 1982, with the release of his debut solo album 'Joana Lluna', to 1989 and his 'Born' album, both released on Bibiloni's own Blau label and taking in the staggering 1988 album 'For A Future Smile' (issued on Polygram sub-label Theta), these recordings offer a glimpse of Joan Bibiloni at his most musically adventurous. What's more, they offer a bonafide reflection of the island of Mallorca and a genuine sound of the Balearic isles.

Situated to the north-east of Ibiza, off the coast of Catalonia, Mallorca is the largest island within the Balearic sea. Like it's neighbour Ibiza, the island is an incredibly popular tourist destination of the modern age. But, unlike Ibiza, Mallorca is not so much known for its music scene. Although, that certainly wasn't always the case.

In the past, both islands served as a magnet for freethinking spirits, in particular the second generation of European teenagers to live their lives unfettered by the effects of world wars. With their art and culture (and drugs) helping them to question almost every accepted rule of society, this hippy generation of the late 1960s and early 1970s went in search of life's deeper meaning. And some found it within the breathtaking environs of the Balearic isles. But, where Ibiza's hippy scene, upon the introduction of new stimulants, evolved into a party that is now famous across the world, Mallorca's did not. Over six times the size of Ibiza, you would've had to look that much harder to find the Bohemian sects decamped on Mallorca. And that's probably because they were happy to keep it like that.

“There are three important places in my life, Llucalcari, Palma de Mallorca and Manacor,” says Mallorca-born guitarist, songwriter, musician and producer Joan Bibiloni. Being born in the latter in 1952, Bibiloni was of perfect age in the early 1970s to join the international band of hippies who bolted to Deià, in whose province Llucalcari, where Bibiloni lived, can be found. By the time he was 20, he was already something of a prodigy on his first chosen instrument, the guitar. By 1972 he had been picked up by band Zebra, featuring Anthony Anderson (brother of Jon Anderson from the band Yes) and became an experienced live performer headed in a jazz and rock fusion vein.
