"There is no faith that the US would lead us out of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the first global crisis ever where this is happening. I see this as the beginning of a Post-American World. There is no return to what it used to be, and that made me think of what happened to the leader of the free world. I wanted to make a song about it.

I can see the extreme polarization and I can tell that president Donald Trump is a dangerous moron, who according to ex-National Security Adviser John Bolton doesn't even know that my home country is not a part of Russia. But since I'm a privileged white Scandinavian cis male, it's impossible for me to fully understand the over 400 hundred years of trauma in the US - discrimination, hate, fear and sadness. That is why I started a discussion about Trump and the situation in the US with my dear friend, Texas-origin artist Jay Nemor.

Jay's messages had a clear theme. Trump this, Trump that, Trump Trump Trump Trump…. We've always known him to be the person that he is. So basically, he is doing him. He has never promised that he would act decently, nor has he given any indication of a desire to behave in any way other than what he has shown. What led people to think otherwise? As if becoming the president would surely change him. What led enough people, maybe not most but still enough people, to feel they wanted him for president? Or that he was even suitable for the job? Those in line before him had to have collectively had pretty freaking awful damn rotten tenures."
